Holiday wreaths are not only decorative, the circularity represents eternity with no beginning and no end. Wrack Wreaths made from plastic pollution represent the fact that plastic is eternal. It doesn’t biodegrade; it photodegrades, breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits that will pollute the environment forever. . Once again, I challenge all makers to create upcycled holiday wreaths and share them using the #wrackwreath hashtag. For inspiration, search #wrackwreath to view the creative submissions from past seasons. . This wreath was made with airsoft gun pellets, which I often find in the strand line. It goes without saying that airsoft games should be played in controlled areas where the BBs can be contained and cleaned up after each game. When left behind in the natural environment, they not only pollute the immediate area, the BBs can be washed into the watershed when it rains. After traveling down streams and rivers, the pellets eventually end up in the ocean where sea birds and marine life can mistake the colorful BBs for food. “Biodegradable” airsoft pellets are available, but as with all biodegradable alternatives, they don’t break down quickly enough to prevent damage to the ecosystem and/or injury when ingested by wildlife. . #wrackwreath #wreath #airsoft #airsoftpellets #litterati #2minutebeachclean #take3forthesea #plasticpollutes #plasticpollution #microplastics #marinedebris #planetorplastic #shoresweepNeat litter on Black Friday. #blackfriday #optout #optoutside #buynothingday #neatlitter #2minbcphotochallenge10 #2minutebeachclean #take3forthesea #shoresweep #plasticpollutes #planetorplastic #marinedebris🌎 E is for Earth—our only home. Those who drink bottled water probably don’t know that it’s “one of the biggest scams of the century.” For “12 facts” that prove why reusable water bottles are a better choice, read the Business Insider article linked in my profile. . #choosetoreuse #reuseableadventure #reuserevolution #2minbcphotochallenge10 #2minutebeachclean #take3forthesea #shoresweep #plasticisforever #plasticpollution #plasticpollutes #planetorplastic #plasticwaterbottle #marinedebrisAs I enjoyed the sunset with Twilight Sparkle this evening, I felt deep appreciation for all the litter-picking, beach-cleaning, planet-loving unicorns out there. The Oceanside Pier—A Place for Everyone
The first Oceanside Pier opened in 1888. It was rebuilt in 1987, and my husband and I moved here in 1988—coincidentally, the hundredth anniversary year of the opening of the original pier. I worked at the newly opened upscale Fisherman’s … Continue reading

Wayfinding
I frequently confuse left and right when I give driving directions to others. When my husband is behind the wheel, I tell him to turn left when I want him to turn right, and if I ask him to turn … Continue reading

Creative Forgiveness
On a recent visit to the beach, I picked up a least a dozen pens, pencils, and markers that had washed up on shore. It’s interesting how one type of trash will be present in abundance on a given day. … Continue reading

What Will You Do?
I have known about the problem of plastic pollution for a long time. Many years ago, my sister and her husband made me aware of the issue through their art. Judith and Richard Selby Lang collect plastic refuse from Kehoe … Continue reading

Del Rio’s Green Team Dream

What Is Hope?
Hope is taking action and becoming part of the solution… I found a water bottle on the beach last week. There wasn’t anything unusual about that. Every time I go to the beach, I pick up several empty beverage containers, … Continue reading
